12th Grade Biomedical Science Independent Research Projects

75 Students designed independent research projects that covered a wide range of topics ranging from genetic engineering with bacteria to human physiology. This session covers experimental design, literature search, how to decide which articles can be trusted, statistical analysis. Listened to the students’ experimental designs and offered suggestions on Controls, Variables and statistical analysis.

Key Questions

  • Listen/look at the student’s experimental design and offer suggestions for controlling variables.
  • Offer possible access to peer reviewed research for the student’s chosen topic.
  • Later look at type of data collected and offer assistance in the best ways to process and find significance.

Expected Outcomes

I would like to be able to partner a student or small group of students with industry mentors who can guide them in the experimental design process for their chosen topics as well as possibly help with best ways to analyze data for significance and communicate findings.
